Survey of Portland-Area Organizations
on the Use of Tests and Assessments in Employee Selection

 

Tests and assessments are being utilized more and more frequently in the hiring process as organizations recognize their value in improving hiring outcomes. SHAPE Consulting recently partnered with the Portland Human Resource Management Association to learn more about the selection practices of organizations in the Portland metro area. A total of 282 HR and staffing professionals responded to email requests to complete the online survey. Over half of the respondents (55%) indicated that their organizations use some type of pre-employment tests or assessments (not including drug testing) during the hiring process. The survey addressed such things as the types of testing being used, the positions for which it is being used, as well as its effectiveness for addressing various issues. The survey also looked at the reasons why tests and assessments are not being used.
