PIOPA was founded in 2003 by local I/O professionals Jeff Johnson and Rainer Seitz as an informal association of individuals with backgrounds, professional experience, and education in Industrial, Organizational, and Work Psychology, or other related disciplines and working in the Oregon and Southwest Washington region. According to the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP), Industrial & Organizational psychologists contribute to an organization’s success by improving the performance of its people.
The primary goals of PIOPA are to:
- foster a community for professionals involved in the scientific application of psychology to the workplace.
- promote the practice and awareness of Industrial, Organizational, and Work Psychology in the greater Portland business community.
- provide learning opportunities and an exchange of ideas for participants.
- serve as an open forum where participants may meet and discuss topics of mutual interest and concern.
General information about PIOPA:
- The Association gathers for lunch once every quarter on the second Friday of the month (March, June, September, December).
- The luncheon meetings are intended to be both social and informative. There is a presentation by either a member or a guest and/or a roundtable discussion at every meeting.
- There are also after-hours social gatherings in between each quarterly luncheon.
- The meeting venue rotates to different areas in Portland.
