I learned about this
1970 Chevelle 400 several years ago, and finally had an opportunity to
purchase it in 2005. This is a base model Chevelle, which means it was
devoid of most exterior chrome trim, and was outfitted with standard
(not Malibu) door panels and a rubber floor mat instead of carpeting.
Its in extremely rough shape, but not beyond being restored. |
Deck stripes appear
original
on the car. There is no evidence that the car was ever repainted. A few
other Monaco Orange 1970 Chevelles have surfaced in recent years,
including an LS6 that was featured in MuscleCar Review several years
ago. Cowl tag shows two dashes where paint code would normally be found. |
The original build
sheet is
proof positive that this Chevelle was one "special" order. Built
as a stripped down model with
lots of performance equipment,
this car may very well have
given Chevrolet the inspiration
to offer the "Heavy Chevy"
Chevelle in 1971. |
